Description and responsibilities
Link to Photo Album Registered Nurse Oncology The role of a registered nurse in oncology is to help care for cancer patients. They administer chemotherapy injections, medications and IV fluids. They keep patients informed of their progress and all results. RN’s educate the patients and their family members about cancer and what treatment is available to them and also their prognosis. They explain side effects and importance of nutrition, diet and exercise. It is very important for a nurse to understand the importance of providing emotional support and advice to both the patient and their family members. They need to have compassion in working in this particular field. It is a very hard time for the patient and their family members.
